Inabell (Patty) Scudder Obituary (1933 - 2024)

Inabell Florence Scudder, known affectionately as Patty, age 91, of Painted Post, NY, passed away on August 24, 2024. She was born on July 16, 1933, in Monterey, NY, and was a beacon of love and generosity, whose heartfelt warmth and thoughtfulness touched everyone she met. Her life was a testament to the words of Mother Teresa, "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier." Inabell’s life was indeed a beautiful journey, her generous spirit a beacon of light in the lives of many. Patty was a reliable and dedicated employee of the Corning-Painted Post School District, where she worked in food service until her retirement. Her diligence and commitment were a source of admiration for both her colleagues and the students she served. Inabell's zest for life extended beyond her professional endeavors. She found immense joy in simple pleasures like reading and solving word find crossword puzzles, activities that kept her mind sharp and her spirit lively. Patty was a loving mother to her children, Merilva Sly, David Scudder, and Kathy Montgomery, who survive her. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Velva Scudder, Chip Sly, Carl Sly, and Shawna (Kevin) Gammal; brothers, Donny Haight and John (Kathy) Haight; sisters: Annabell, Dorothy, and June; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Patty is survived by a special cousin, Jewel, who she loved and always visited with at the Knoxville Apartments where they both lived; they always sat outside and enjoyed the sun and had small cookouts together; and a good friend she loved a lot, Roxanne, who lived in the same apartments and helped her with many things. She believed deeply in the power of family and friends, and it was to these relationships she dedicated her life. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Anna Haight, and their legacy of kindness and resilience lived on in her. She was also predeceased by her brothers: Kenneth, Roy, Ronny, Henry, Willy, and Ceril; and her grandson, Vernon Scudder. A woman of extraordinary strength, unwavering determination, and boundless love, Patty will be remembered not just for the life she led, but for the lives she touched with her kindness and generosity. As we remember her, we are reminded of the words of Maya Angelou, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
