Helen A. Nichols, age 95, formerly of Spencer Hill Road in Corning, NY died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Absolut Care at Three Rivers in Painted Post, NY. \n\n Helen was born on June 15, 1925 in Corning to Gustof and Dora (Paulsen) Johnson. \n\n She was a graduate of Corning Free Academy High School. Helen retired from Corning Glass Works as an administrative assistant in 1987.\n\n She is survived by her daughter, Patty McClelland of Stuart, FL; sons, Ron (Deb) Powers of Corning and Doug Powers of Florence, KY; grandchildren: Chad Powers of Corning, Christina (Brandon) Brewster of Horseheads, NY, and Craig Powers of Horseheads; step son, Robert (Susan) Nichols of Addison; great granddaughters, Alannah and Ainslie. \n\n She was preceded in death by her husbands, Preston Powers (1947-86) and John Nichols (1989-2011). Helen was predeceased by her sister, Valburg Hammarstrom; brothers, Oscar Johnson, Hans Johnson, and Adolph Johnson.\n\n Private family services will be held at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. with Reverend Jennifer Long officiating. Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery.\n\n Memorial donations may be made in Helen’s name to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 149 W. William Street, Corning, NY 14830.\n\n Helen’s family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
