Harvey E. Miller, age 79, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Pyrex Street in Corning died Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Lakeland Regional Hospital.\n\n\nHarvey was born on November 13, 1936 in Corning to C. Harvey and Elizabeth (Peet) Miller. He graduated from Northside High School in 1954 and entered the United States Navy and served until 1957. Harvey married Maureen McLaughlin on July 16, 1960 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Corning.\n\n\nHe attended bank schools at West Point and the University of Wisconsin at Madison and was employed 36 years as a bank officer for The First National Bank of Corning until his retirement in 1994. He was an avid golfer and hunter, and he enjoyed travel.\n\n\nHarvey was active in community affairs serving as president of Indian Hills Golf Club, treasurer of the Jaycees, director of the Corning Babe Ruth League, and director of the Corning-Painted Post Area United Fund. He was a member of the Greater Corning Area Chamber of Commerce, Painted Post Board of Trade, and Colonial Days organizing committee. Additionally, he was active in Steuben area Boy Scouts, was a member of the Corning Library Board, and served as treasurer of the Cypress Lakes Men's Golf Association. He was a 30-year volunteer with the Corning LPGA. Harvey was a lifetime member of Elks BPOE Lodge 1071. He served one term as Sixth Ward Alderman for the City of Corning in the early 1980's. He was affiliated with local and NYS Automobile Association of America (AAA) for over 30 years serving as a board member and a state president.\n\n\nIn 1992, Harvey was inducted into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame as a Contributor for his work for over 30 years at high school sports on the "chain gang" and clock operator. He was proud of his two holes-in-one that he shot, one at Indian Hills and the other at Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club. He was a parishioner of and lector at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Corning and St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Lakeland, FL.\n\n\nHe is survived by his wife Maureen; daughter, Ann (Richard) Collins of Painted Post; son, Harvey (Gabrielle) Miller of Houston, TX and Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Betsy (Louis) Pompi of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Brittany (Jacob) Kopech, Nicole Miller, Aidan Collins, Bridget Collins and Cian Collins; two nephews.\n\n\nCalling hours will be held on Sunday, October 16th from 1 until 4 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM on Monday, October 17th at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 222 Dodge Avenue in Corning. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.\n\n\nMemorial donations may be made in Harvey's name to the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org) or All Saints Parish, Corning.\n\n\nHarvey's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
