Harry A. Smith, age 81, of Bridgeport, NY died Friday, August 3, 2018 at the home of his very special companion in Beaver Dams, NY.\n\n\nHarry was born on November 16, 1936 in Campbell to William and Marion (Lindow) Smith. He graduated from Painted Post High School in 1954 and joined the United States Army. He served in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division and was a jumpmaster and was on the Army Pistol Team. Harry was a life member of the Bridgeport VFW, and inaugural and past president of the New York State Draft Pony and Mule Association. He loved showing and joining parades with his horses. He loved animals and farming. Harry had been employed by St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse for over 20 years. \n\n\nHe is survived by daughters, Becky (Mike) McDermott of Bridgeport, NY and Patricia Keating of Maine; four sisters, Nancy Best, Julia Sprague, Marilyn (Joseph) Merola, and Vicky (Donald) Serfoss; brothers, Harold Smith and Edward Smith; grandchildren, Michael (Michele) McDermott, Melissa McDermott, and Leslie Keating; great granddaughter, Ashlin McDermott; very special companion, Kate Tinker; many nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his wife Beverly (King) Smith in 2015. \n\n\nA Memorial Service will be held at the Bridgeport VFW on Saturday August 11th at 2:00 PM.\n\n\nMemorial donations may be made in Harry's Name to the Madison County 4-H or the Bridgeport VFW Post 8440, RR 31, Bridgeport, NY 13030.\n\n\nHarry's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
