Grace Marie Maxwell

Grace M. Maxwell of Caton, NY passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Guthrie Corning Hospital.

She was born in Corning, NY to Thomas and Angeline (Bamonte) Giardina on March 2, 1932. She married Walter Maxwell, Jr. on August 21, 1954 in Endicott, NY. He preceded her in death in 1980.

Grace is survived by her son Walter (Doris) Maxwell, III; step granddaughter, Sara (Archie) Frunzi; step great grandchildren, Ashton and Grace Frunzi all of Pine City; sisters, Rose Green, Theresa Flick, Clara (Bill) Halter, Jean VanAlstine, Thomasine Knickerbocker, and Mary Ann Ritz; brothers, Joseph (Sandy) Giardina and Thomas Giardina; sister-in-law, Ann Giardina; brothers-in-law, Victor (Betty) Maxwell and Dennis Hyde; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Connie Woodcock and Anna Marie Hyde; brother, Charles Giardina.

Grace retired from Corning Incorporated Executive Club in 1992. She was a member of All Saints Parish, past member of the Caton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Crystal City VFW Post 524, and the American Legion, John P. Eaton Post 746. Grace was known for the delicious goodies she baked for all the ones she cared about.

Calling hours will be Monday, December 22, from 9-10am at St. Vincent de Paul, 222 Dodge Avenue in Corning where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Caton.

The family will provide flowers and ask that memorials be made to Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA, 2435 State Route 352, Elmira, NY 14903.
