Gertrude A. Gill, age 83, of Corning died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Founders Pavilion in Corning, NY. Gertrude was born on July 1, 1930 in Corning to Arthur and Mary Anna (Aker) Gill. After college she became a Sister in the Franciscan Order. She taught at St. Lucy's in the Bronx and locally for St. Vincent's and St. Mary's schools as a lay teacher. She is survived by her sister, Lola O'Dell of Corning; a brother; Arthur (Marion) Gill of Corning; brother-in-law, Roger Steele of Corning; many nieces and nephews; close friend from the Order of St. Francis, Sr. Marita Flynn. Gertrude was predeceased by one brother and six sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 24th at 10:00AM at St. Mary's Chruch. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 1316 College Avenue, Elmira, NY 14901. Gertrude's family have entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. in Corning.
