Evelyn M. Kapral, 96, of Big Flats passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was the third of five children born to William and Mary (Anderson) Yeager on November 18, 1918. She attended and graduated from schools in Pennsylvania and the Elmira Business Institute in Elmira. She was employed for many years at St. Joseph's Hospital as a medical secretary to the pathologist.\n\n\nEvelyn and Samuel A. Kapral were married in New York City on November 18, 1944 while he was on leave from the U.S. Coast Guard. They made their first home in Corning, New York, and in 1958, moved to their current home in Big Flats. They would have celebrated their 71st anniversary this year.\n\n\nEvelyn was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress, and gardener, and enjoyed canning and making jams, jellies, relishes, etc. , which she generously shared with friends and neighbors.\n\n\nShe is survived by her husband, Samuel; daughter, Karen Cullen of Elmira; son, Christopher (Lucinda) Kapral of Austin, Texas; granddaughters, Susan (Norberto) Rosado of Elmira, Laura (Michael) Binkowski of Bath, New York; grandsons, William and David Kapral of Texas; great-grandchildren, Michael, Connor, and Aleah Binkowski of Bath; brother, Clifford Yeager of Pennsylvania, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, a brother, her parents, and all of her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Evelyn was a wonderful, kind lady who will be deeply missed by all who loved her.\n\n\nThe family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home. Burial was on Wednesday, October 14 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning.
