Evelyn R. Richardson, age 96, of Corning, NY, died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Corning Centers in Corning.\n\n\nEvelyn was born on April 1, 1919 in Corning to Harvey and Rose (La Barron) Kirkendall. She married Wayne Richardson on July 17, 1948 in Corning. She graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1937 where she was active in all sports and served as the Drum Major of the band throughout her four years of high school. She was a graduate of Bailey's Beauty School. She was a life member of the Corning Free Academy Alumni Association.\n\n\nShe worked as a Secretary in the Furnace Development Department for Corning Glass Works and retired in 1979 after 30 years of service.\n\n\nEvelyn was the first woman to be elected into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame in 1977 for her bowling achievements. She was a Charter Member of the Corning Women's Bowling Association and Corning Bowling Hall of Fame. She was a Life Member of the National 600 Club and the first president of the Corning Women's 600 Club. In the prime years of her bowling career, she was featured in the Women's Bowling Magazine written by 'Pat' Salo. She was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Moose Lodge.\n\n\nShe is survived by her granddaughter, Shannon Richardson. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Wayne Richardson, and her son, Gerald Richardson. \n\n\nPrivate graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Barnard Cemetery in Corning.\n\n\nMemorial donations may be made in Evelyn's name to any animal shelter of your choice.\n\n\nEvelyn's family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
