Elsie V. Buck, age 84, of Moneta, VA, formerly of Painted Post, NY, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Franklin Health and Rehab Center in Rocky Mount, VA. Elsie was born March 4, 1932 in Corning, NY to William and Lillian (Van Cise) Varner. She married Donald A. Buck on November 2, 1956 at the Riverside Wesleyan Church and was predeceased by him in 1976.\n\n\nElsie graduated from Northside High School in 1949 and from Nyack-On-Hudson in Nyack, NY. Instead of pursuing a career in teaching, Elsie spent almost 20 years as a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother until her death.\n\n \n\nElsie retired from Fieldcrest Cannon in Corning at the age of 70. She served on the election board for many years. After retiring she volunteered at Corning Hospital, Corning Chamber of Commerce and others.\n\n\nAs a member of Victory Highway Wesleyan Church since 1956, Elsie served as a choir member and a Sunday school teacher.\n\n\nShe is survived by her two daughters: Sue (Guy) Bodemer of Moneta, VA, and Pennie (Derrick) Phillipp of Lockport, NY; grandsons: Andrew, Brian, Kevin, and Patrick; five step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and more than twenty step-great grandchildren.\n\n \n\nBesides her husband Elsie was predeceased by her step son, Donald E. Buck, step daughter, Sonia (Robert) Freeman, sister, Cora (Donald) Clarkson and brother, William Varner, Jr.\n\n \n\nCalling hours will be held Friday, September 16, 2016 from 12:00 until 2:00pm at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street, Corning, NY. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home. Pastor Vaughn Van Skiver will be officiating. Burial will be in Goodsell Cemetery.\n\n \n\nMemorial donations in Elsie's honor may be made to Alzheimer Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620.\n\n\nElsie's family has entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
