Donald J. Sanford, age 80, of Corning, NY died Friday, January 25, 2013 at Corning Hospital.\n\n\nDon was born on December 23, 1932 in Dansville, NY to James and Dorothea (Locey) Sanford. He married Eva Allen in Corning in 1954. He served in the Air Force as an electrician and mechanic from 1952 to 1954. He worked for Corning Glass Works as a machinist and toolmaker, and retired in 1995 with 35 years of service to the company. He was a member \n\nof American Legion and V.F.W. in Corning. Don loved woodworking and made cabinets and furniture. \n\n\nHe is survived by his wife Eva; three sons, Donald (Kay) Sanford of Hammondsport, Earl (Angela) Sanford of Campbell, and Dale (Crystal) Sanford of Dixon, MO; sister, Dorothy (Donald) Manning of Branchport, NY; brother, Ronald (Martha) Sanford of Coopers Plains; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley Sanford of Coopers Plains; several nieces and nephews.\n\n\nDonald was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Sanford, and by his sisters, Patricia Bell and Mina Jean Sanford.\n\n\nPrivate family services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post. Arrangements have been entrusted to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. 216 East First Street in Corning. \n\n\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 1316 College Avenue, Elmira, NY 14901.
