Carrie E. Smith Obituary (1916 - 2016)

Carrie E. Smith, age 100, of High Street in Corning, NY died Monday, July 11, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. Carrie was born on April 7, 1916 in Bradford to Clarence and Emma (Bush) Overhiser. She was a graduate of Savona High School and business school in Bath. She married William C. Smith on October 21, 1938 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and was predeceased by him in 2002. She worked as a bookkeeper for Hungerford Buick in Corning. She and her husband spent their retirement years working on and enjoying their cottage on Seneca Lake. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Joe Andrysick) Sherman of Elmira; son, Norm (Carol Ann) Smith of Painted Post; grandchildren, John Suffern of Charlotte, NC, Glenn (Dawn) Suffern of New Salisbury, IN, and Ryan Smith of Groveland, FL; great grandchildren, Brittnee, Jacob, and Tiberius; several nieces and nephews; her neighbors, John and Mary Jane Crane and Linda Walker. Carrie was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Florence, Le Roy, James, Marion, and Mildred. Private graveside services will be held at Seaman's Cemetery in Savona, NY. The family will provide flowers and ask that donations be made to the Chemung County Humane Society, 2435 State Route 352, Elmira, NY 14903. Carrie's family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
