Beatrice A. Blencowe Humphrey, age 78, of Corning, NY passed away at her home on Sunday July 31st, 2016. Bea was born December 8th, 1937 on Welch Rd, Corning, NY to Harold and Maud (Preston) Blencowe.\n\n\nBea went to the one-room school house on Spencer Hill and then graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1955. She then attended Cortland State College, graduating in 1959 as a Physical Education Teacher, and then obtained her Masters Degree at Syracuse University in Library Science before becoming a certified classroom teacher for grades 1-6. She married the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Humphrey on February 6, 1960, and was predeceased by him on January 19th, 2000.\n\n\nBea taught physical education in East Syracuse, NY, Library Science in Cincinnatus, NY, Cortland, NY, and Corning, NY. She then taught grades 1-6 in Corning, NY, the last 19 years of which were spent teaching 6th grade at Northside Blodgett Middle School, for a total of 41 years as an educator. She loved kids and teaching.\n\n\nHer greatest love, though, was her family. Together with her and her husband they traveled across the country several times, and she later traveled with friends to Germany, Spain, the British Isles, China, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and Hawaii.\n\n\nAmong her many passions was playing cards, especially with dear friends. She also enjoyed bowling, golf and volleyball, and playing "Chickenfoot" with family and friends. In addition, Bea was a member of CARTA and CTAR, both retired teachers' groups, and belonged to the Corning Area Women's Club.\n\n\nShe is survived by her sons, Theron (Mary) Humphrey of Corning, Chad (Jennie) Humphrey of Caton, Richard (Tammy) Humphrey of Campbell, and Douglas (Lorna) Humphrey of Fairview, Missouri; daughters Betsy (Monty) Myers of Lindley and Bonnie (Sid) Oliver of Fairview, Missouri; one brother, Robert Blencowe of Corning; sisters-in-law Joyce (Clifford) Blencowe of Corning and Rita (Homer) Jackson of North Carolina; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Kathy) Humphrey of Connecticut; 14 grandchildren: Caitlin Humphrey, Jason (April) Humphrey, Crystal (Robert) Watson, Ashleigh (Jason Bailey) Geyer, Jeffrey (Steven McGough) Humphrey, Christopher (Christina) Smith, Bobbie Lynn (Casey) Kulow, Jake Oliver, Shara Dawn Oliver, Derek Myers, Kim Cummings, Jennifer Miller, Michelle Miller, and Daniel Humphrey; 24 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends Gary and Viola Powers, Nancy Goblet, Elaine Drake, and Inge Will.\n\n\nIn addition to her husband Richard, she was predeceased by her son Daniel in 1977; sister, Gertrude and brothers Clifton, Gene, and Clifford.\n\n\nFamily and friends may call on Friday August 5th from noon to 2 PM, and Saturday August 6th from 9 AM to 11 AM at Beartown Road Alliance Church where funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post.
