Alyce H. Loomis Obituary (1935 - 2024)

Alyce H. Loomis, age 88, of Painted Post, NY passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Corning Hospital. Born on February 22, 1935 in Corning, NY, she was the daughter of Doryce (Scudder) Hall and Roy Edwin (Ted) Hall of Painted Post. Alyce was a graduate of Painted Post High School and Syracuse University. She married Gordon C. Loomis, the son of Clinton Floyd and Ethlyn (Drake) Loomis on June 23, 1956. Alyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandparent, and great-grandparent. She devoted her life to her family, making sure that everyone got to enjoy the things they loved, and she had meaningful experiences along the way. She enjoyed gardening, in particular, flowers and landscaping of their home in Painted Post. In addition to raising her family, Alyce worked in the family business, Hall’s Hardware, in Painted Post before retiring in 1988. The center of her life was her family. Alyce was a professional grandparent. She loved holidays, birthdays, and milestones; taking pictures to celebrate and remember them. Her family included son, Steven (Tanya) Loomis of Pulteney, NY; daughter, Susan (Stephen) Bliss of Savona, NY; grandchildren, Alisa (James) Laska of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Sherry (Kevin) Moison of Painted Post, and Ian (Siobhain) Loomis of Painted Post, and great-grandchildren, Caleb and Isabel Laska and Noah Moison. In addition to her parents, Alyce was predeceased by her husband, Gordon in August of 2023, daughter Susan Bliss in 2017, and brother Duane in 2001, and infant brother Alan in 1946. The passing of the love of her life and soulmate Gordon left a tremendous void in her life. Together they shared a life of hard work, love, laughs, tears and devotion to each other and their family. At the request of the Loomis family, there will be no services. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date convenient to the family.
