Gary Hunt

Obituary of Gary Hunt

Gary William Hunt, age 71, of Bonita Springs, FL, died Monday, April 2, 2018 at Promise Hospital in Ft. Myers, FL.

Gary was born on August 4, 1946 in Corning to William and Norma (Thompson) Hunt.  He worked for Ingersoll-Rand Company in Painted Post as a truck driver.

Gary was passionate about hard work and keeping busy. From his parent’s farm, to truck driving, to doing yard work despite Gary’s tragic truck accident that left him a paraplegic, his desires persisted.  During his last few decades, Gary became a man of faith. He frequented Victory Highway Wesleyan Church in NY and continued to attend churches that exemplified his faith in God when he moved to Pittsburgh, PA and then Bonita Springs, FL.  He was a proud supporter and member of the Kiwanis Club of Corning as he would provide donations as well as volunteer for events while he lived in NY.  Anyone that knew Gary would tell you he was most proud of his grandchildren as he was always talking about how much he loved them.  Gary loved to meet new people and it was not uncommon for Gary to turn strangers into lifelong friends just by striking up a conversation with them.

Gary is survived by his son, Gerald (Bethany) Hunt of Ft. Myers, FL; sisters, Carol Ann Hoad of Cameron Mills and Catherine (Denny) Lacomb of Elmira; brothers, Thomas (Julie) Hunt of Painted Post and Robert (Vickie) Hunt of Thomasville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Connor and Peyton Hunt; several nieces and nephews; and girlfriend, Ofelia Campbell of Ft. Myers.  Gary was predeceased by his son, Stevie Hunt, and a brother, Tim Hunt.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 9th from 5 - 7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10th starting at 10 AM with pastors Paul Piraino and Vaughn VanSkiver officiating.  Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery.
