Obituary of Edward Eames

Edward “Eddie” C. Eames, 86, of Painted Post, NY, passed away peacefully on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2018.

 

He was born on August 7, 1931 in Elmira, the 11th child of 17, to Raymond and Anna Campbell Eames. He attended Elmira Free Academy and later on in life, earned his GED.

 

He met the love of his life, the late Ruth Ann Quattrene in 1950, at the Joycrest Skating Rink in Elmira. He moved to Corning and they were married on June 28, 1952.

 

Eddie worked for Corning Glass Works for several years before entering the apprenticeship program. He eventually became a Class A Machinist, working at Main Plant, Pressware, General Machine Shop and Fall brook, before retiring with over 40 years of service. He recently received his 65-year pin from Corning Incorporated.

 

Eddie enjoyed hunting, especially turkeys, fishing and traveling. After retiring, he took up golf and spent many days on the local courses with some good friends.  He was a life-long participant in many of the local bowling leagues.

 

Eddie leaves behind his loving family: daughters, Tracey (Kevin) Knapp of Painted Post and Catherine (Eric) Sutton of Horseheads; granddaughters, Amanda (Tony) McGinnis of Painted Post, Caitlin Knowles of West Chester, PA, and Juliana Knapp of Corning; and great-grandson, Jackson McGinnis of Painted Post. He is also survived by sisters, Mary (Bob) Henry of Elmira, Lillian (Don) Thompson of Lewisville TX and JoAnn Brusso of Melbourne, FL. He also leaves behind a multitude of very special nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial mass will be held to honor both Eddie and Ruthie at 9:30AM, Friday, January 5, 2018, at St. Vincent de Paul, 222 Dodge Avenue, Corning. A private burial service for immediate family will follow the church service. In lieu of flowers, donations in their honor are requested for The American Cancer Society, P.O Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or Alzheimer’s Association, 435 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620.

 

Eddie’s family has entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street, Corning, NY.
