Painted Post, NY – Bradley Q. Kinsman, age 87, of Painted Post, NY, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2017, at Corning Hospital.
Brad was born June 25, 1930 in Amsterdam, NY, son of Daniel and Clara Quaif Kinsman. He graduated from Alfred University, College of Ceramics in 1952 with a BS degree in Ceramic Engineering. He was employed by Refractory & Insulation Corporation in Port Kennedy, PA and then served two years in the 173rd Army Band, after which he was employed by Corning Glass Works starting in 1955 and continuing until his retirement in 1992.
Brad was a Lifetime Member of the Philmont Scout Ranch Staff Association and a devoted Boy Scout (Cub Scouts 1939-1942; Boy Scouts 1942-1946; Explorer Scouts 1946-1948) attaining the highest rank in each. He spent the summers of 1947-1949 as a staff member at the national Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Brad spent over 20 years as an Eagle Scout Review Board member in the Five Rivers Council and in 2014 was given the Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Youth.
He married, first, Olga Mazzella in 1953 and, second, Elizabeth Manning in 1964. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer and spent 37 years at Corning Glass Works in Batch Facilities Design and Construction, International Facilities Design and Construction, living in Brazil and Romania a total of 8 years, and the last 15 years as Manager of Furnace Design and Related Construction. Brad was instrumental in the establishment of protocols and procedures for safety and hygiene protection of workers in furnace repair.
Brad was also the founder of “The Brass Works” in 1976 and managed the ensemble for 25 years. Additionally, he was one of the original and long time members of the Corning Community Concert Band.
Surviving Brad is his loving and devoted wife, Betty; daughter Sharon (Tom) Salmon of Englewood, NJ; son Jim (Ellie) of Farmington, NY; son Tom (Nancy) of Downingtown, PA; daughter Karen (Holly) of Albuquerque, NM; and son Daniel (Rekha) of Macedon, NY; grandchildren Brian, Katie, Beth, Amy, Michael, Zackary, Bradley, Milan, and Robert; and sister Mary Frances Isburgh of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Predeceasing Brad were his parents and his two first-born children, Michael and Bradley Alan.
There will be no viewing. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Painted Post First Baptist Church 130 West Water Street in Painted Post, NY.
