James J. Warunek, age 91, of Corning, passed away Saturday, September 2, at Guthrie Corning Hospital.
He was born September 26, 1925 in Corning to John and Caroline (Mrozik) Warunek and married Helen Kapril on January 17th, 1948 in St. Patrick's Church in Corning.
Jim served in the Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the European and Pacific theaters. He was a glass mechanic at Corning Glass Inc., in which he retired with 42 years of active service and 30 years of inactive service. Jim was a member of All Saints Parish, Big Flats Legion, and Corning VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; sister, Helen Baer; sons, David (Pat) and John (Christine) Warunek, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sister, Mary Somners, and brothers: Stanley, Casimir, Charles, Edward, and John Jr. Warunek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday September 6th at 9:30 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 222 Dodge Avenue in Corning. Committal prayers and internment will be in the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning. No calling hours are scheduled.
Memorial donations may be made to All Saints Parish.
The Warunek family has entrusted Jim's care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
